Ozarks Studies Institute - Ozarks Writing Project

Summer Invitational Institute

The Ozarks Writing Project Invitational Summer Institute is the heart of the National Writing Project, and we can be clear about its purposes:

  • to identify successful teachers of writing across all curriculum areas in the Ozarks schools and colleges who will be effective teachers of other teachers
  • to identify approaches that have been successful in real classrooms for the teaching of writing and the uses of writing-to-learn in all subjects areas
  • to involve teachers in their own writing so that they can better help their students
  • to examine basic issues of equity and access as they affect student learning
  • to make current research in the field available to teachers

Through the institute each summer, the OWP builds its corps of Teacher Consultants, expands its collective knowledge, and increases its capacity to address complex issues and concerns regarding literacy in the Ozarks.

This year we are able to invite 16 teachers, kindergarten through university, to the Missouri State University campus to participate as OWP Summer Fellows in the Invitational Summer Institute, supported by a summer stipend. At the end of the summer program, Fellows will be Ozarks Writing Project Teacher Consultants, an expanding network of exemplary Ozarks educators.
